Players gone to Coventry... |
Lead | |
|
I was very disappointed yesterday to see that the Coventry players didn't even come in and eat their food after the game. Fair enough we'd just given them an absolute spanking, but you'd expect the team to come in and have a beer with the oppo in the spirit of rugby union. Maybe we should send them their spag bol in the post with the match DVD...

I suspect the players were told not to by the coach. It might be worth asking your officials / team management whether this was the case.

A few of the players did pop into the bar for the pasta bake. Although they didn't sit in the area set aside for the players, they sat at a table with other supporters. There was only 5 or 6 of them and they didn't stay long, they were on the coach and away long before our supporters coach left.

Yes they were told by their coach, that's what makes it worse. It's not very professional to go off in a sulk because you've lost!!

I really hope that is not true and that it is some of the other agenda brigade stirring things again?
Will be a big loss if he was to go. I mentioned it to someone in the club office and they were shocked to hear it so lets just hope it's just a rumour. Him and Gully are the only real "COV" left! |

Sorry scrumbag, your conspiracy theory doesn't wash. As has happened a number of times this season, the Sportnetwork site will have been suspended because it hadn't had a recent enough content update. As you'll see, if you look, the discussion - critical and otherwise continues as normal.

I agree that it didn't look great that the Cov team didn't turn up en masse for the after match social but I can also understand that their coach needed to make a point. Whats annoyed me more is the report in the Cov Evening Telegraph describing us as an only average side. If we'd only beaten them narrowly I'd agree, but the way we dominated play was more down to our ability than their lack of it. I notice in his report from our cup game at Cov it was their good play that beat us, no mention of us being only avarage or push overs. At Plymouth last week they expected to beat us but at the end admitted they were beaten by a better side, and it wasn't because they played badly. Plymouth played well but we were better. Criticise your own teams performance or run of results but give credit where credit's due. |

I just hope we continue our 'average' form on to saturdays game. At Mose 3 weeks ago we played badly for the first hour. Missed tackles and being beaten to the ball allowed Mose to be almost out of sight. But they played well to put us under presuure in the first place. We fought back and nearly gained an unlikely win which wouldn't have been deserved but a win is a win if you aspire to be top 6.
Cov seem to be suffering from the Nottingham Forest syndrome - because of their history they're too good to be where they are. Whilst we are all hacked off by our own teams performances at times, you need a reality check at times. We've had ours on more than one occasion this season, but we've only rarely been awful. Our problem is that we've not given ourselves the opportunity to win games by giving the opposition a head start. I expect Bees will want to make up for the defeat at Meadow Lane somewhat. Should make for an interesting game, plus we want to finish above Cov. |

Average team | ||
|
A mid table team below us in the League (before sunday) could possibly be seen as an average team.
Cov went from being an average team to be a poor team in the last few weeks! Lets face it 9 or 10 in the league is average! It was the fact we lost by 54 points to a team that in the table is no better than us and that we had already beaten twice this season. It hurt enough to be hammered by Leeds and they are a good team! Cov supporters can handle losing, we are used to it. It's when we lose and our players show no pride passion or anything else for that matter that we get annoyed. |

Form - variations on a theme. | ||

Bad form - sneaking out the back door because you got thumped.
The management at Cov should remember that there were a lot of Cov supporters in the bar post match. Not to acknowledge them by going straight home is rotten. One of the great traditions is that win or lose you all have a beer afterwards - I don't recall us sneaking out when we lost at Exeter (though the players did seem to find the floor just in front of their feet strangely fascinating), or indeed hiding after either loss at Cov. As for Nottinghams form - who knows if we are average or not? Some days we are amazing 50 nil or 54 nil some we are absolute rubbish. This is anything but average (average would be an achievement sometimes). |

Notts v Cov | ||

Al from Cov.
I agree totally that the league table doesn't lie. We are both average sides. However, we are both capable of playing well above average, (and below as well), which I think sums up sundays game. Furthermore, the level of our performance at Plymouth was nearer the Leeds mark than that of an average side. We are both capable of being good and bad sides on our day (Moseley was a terrible game for us), so I don't think it was a total disgrace to get stuffed by a team (as your coach commented, "below us in the league"). Being only 2 points behind didn't make us a bottom 4 team. It might be the best time of the season to be beaten by 50 points in consecutive games (I know it's never a best time really), but the result on sunday is in the past now. We might be dining out on it this week, but next season it'll count for nothing apart from us wanting to repeat the win and you make amends in some way. All I know is that this league isn't getting any easier, and no team has a divine right to win games, whoever the opposition are. We would quite like the season to continue where as I suspect you want it to finish so that Murray Henderson can start afresh. I'm looking forward to the (inevitable) ups and downs next season already. |

How did that happen? we the slightly above average side in the west midlands, pinching argueably the best prop in ND1 off our more exultant although slightly more average neighbours, good player

It didn't happen - you haven't pinched him from Coventry, as he hasn't been under contract to Coventry since he was released early in the season when he suffered a serious injury.
As you say, he's an excellent player, and it's a great shame that the mess-up that occurred and resulted in his being released happened. |

As a observer I would point out that Coventry have been one of the poorest teams to visit Waterloo this season and were lucky to go away with a win. Decidedly average

somewhat of a sterile argument as most of us Cov supporters would agree.
On a wider point there does seem to be a wider gap between the top 7 and everyone else.Despite what others feel and having spoken to many members of the press i feel that the standard has been pretty low in most games/teams. The best 3 teams are quite rightly at top but even those have shown that they are not always that good. Coventry did as well as expected considering their poor recruitment,the big surprises were Nottingham and newbury who i felt have underperformed.Bees have shown most progress amongst us also-rans. |
